The Fall 2026 semester series, UNEXPECTED / UNFORESEEN, presents a selection of films featuring plot twists that audiences may never see coming. Most films follow a familiar narrative structure: exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, and conclusion. Some stories are so predictable that audiences can anticipate the ending halfway through the film. At other times, however, filmmakers construct original and unexpected narratives that keep audiences guessing until the very end. Unexpected/Unforeseen twists and shocking endings, when skillfully employed, can leave a lasting impression. They can transform a film into an iconic and unforgettable cinematic experience.
