Dinners With Interesting People 10/19/2025
Again, this is lunch -- though some might call it Sunday Dinner! João Sedoc has a BS in Mathematics, BSE in Computer Science Engineering and PhD in Computer and Information Science from the University of Pennsylvania. He's now a faculty member at the NYU Stern School of Business, where his research areas are at the intersection of machine learning and natural language processing. His interests include conversational agents, hierarchical models, deep learning, spectral clustering, spectral estimation of hidden Markov models, and time series analysis. After his undergrad education, João spent a dozen years in the finance industry, including at BNP Paribas, mainly focused on high-frequency trading. And in 2013 he returned to grad school at Penn, to pursue his interests in AI and NLP. He has also inherited a farm in Suriname, where his family is from.
