The Quad, then and now
08.18.2026
Penn's iconic Quadrangle, built in the 1890s, was the first student residence built on the then recently-established West Philadelphia campus. Over the last century and a quarter, tens of thousands of Quakers have called the Quad home for at least one of their college years. Penn Today took a look at the stories of some of the alumni who lived in the Quad and went on to become Penn staff, and also offers a pictorial review of the last 132 years in the Quad. Today's Quad is freshly renovated, opening fully for the first time in three years this fall to house about 1300 first-year Penn students.
