Come and listen to Echezonachukwu Nduka, Harrison's own resident published Poet and Music Scholar, read from his new book: https://www.amazon.ca/Jazz-Negotiations-Echezonachukwu-Nduka/dp/9788570232

In Jazz Negotiations, emotive dialogues with histories, identities, and quotidian realities seek to redefine Africanness. Shaped by music and jazz form, narratives run from one end of the world map to the other, stopping in cities, amplifying voices, reviewing racial tensions, and questioning belief. Through Nduka’s musical verses, we hear the confessions of melodies in hidden and open spaces, the weeping of nature for harm caused by humans, the wounds of yesteryears living in the trauma of now, and the promise of the future. In a wide range of thematically linked poems that move through the landscapes of Nigeria and the United States, we find the borderless natures of grief and joy, sound and silence, and the unending possibilities of language.

Lecture and Dinner

Sena Voncujovi (Agama Sino Ventures; Peking University, class '22) is a third-generation practitioner of Vodu and Afa, ancient West African spiritual and herbal practices. This conversation will highlight how Sena and other contemporary practitioners draw on African indigenous traditions and traditional Chinese medicine, provincializing the ways African spiritual traditions have been framed within the Western project. Moving across geographies—Africa, Asia, the Americas—the event traces new directions for development and healing at the crossroads of the material and the spiritual.
