Come dine with Provost Jackson! Provost Jackson began his tenure on June 1, 2023. A leading scholar of urban ethnography, visual culture, and the anthropology of race, he is the only Penn professor to have served as dean of two schools—Annenberg and the School of Social Policy and Practice—and was also the first Penn Integrates Knowledge University Professor. He is the author of influential books including Harlemworld, Real Black, Racial Paranoia, and Thin Description. In addition to producing award-winning films like Making Sweet Tea, he has helped found initiatives such as the Collective for Advancing Multimodal Research Arts and the Center for Experimental Ethnography and the PENN Futures Project.
