Quad fully reopens after 3 years

After a three-year, multiphase renovation, Penn’s historic Quadrangle is fully reopening this fall for the first time since spring 2023, bringing Fisher Hassenfeld, Riepe, and Ware College Houses back together to welcome approximately 1,400 first-year students. The project balanced preservation of the Quad’s distinctive Gothic character with major infrastructure upgrades and new amenities designed to strengthen residential community, including 24/7 shared kitchens and lounges, seminar and study spaces, renovated bathrooms and student rooms, new elevators, and an expanded McClelland Café hub with classroom, fitness, and gathering spaces. The renovation also restored historic features such as leaded glass windows, slate roofing, chimneys, and façades while incorporating sustainability improvements like insulated windows, recycled materials, and restored furniture, creating a more accessible, modern, and community-focused living environment while maintaining the character of one of Penn’s most recognizable landmarks.
